‘Eliminated’: Israel Says Hamas Naval Commander Ahmed Ali Killed In Gaza Strike

Commander of Hamas’ Naval Unit in Gaza City, Ahmed Ali, was tragically assassinated in an Israeli airstrike, as confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The IDF and Shin Bet security agency disclosed that a drone strike claimed Ali’s life in Gaza, reported by Xinhua news agency. Ali, a key figure in managing Hamas’ Naval Unit projects, played a significant role during Israel’s recent Gaza offensive. He orchestrated attacks on Israeli targets and ground troops in the region.

Over the past week, it said Ali had advanced terrorist activities against IDF troops operating in central Gaza. The IDF also claimed “numerous” launches had been identified coming from Rafah towards the Kerem Shalom Crossing. The missiles did not cross into Israeli territory but landed in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas did not immediately comment when asked about Ali’s killing. Reportedly, the Palestinian militant group said he was a member of its armed wing, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades.

US will stop sending bombs to Israel if it launches major invasion of Rafah, Biden says

President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he would stop shipments of US weapons to Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu orders a major invasion of the city of Rafah.

“I made it clear that if they go into Rafah – they haven’t gone in Rafah yet – if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities – that deal with that problem,” Biden told CNN.

The US is Israel’s strongest ally, sending about $3.3 billion in military aid annually.

“We have paused one shipment of weapons last week. It consists of 1,800 2,000-lb (907 kg) bombs and 1,700 500-lb (226 kg) bombs,” the senior official in President Joe Biden’s administration said on condition of anonymity.

At least 34,844 Palestinians were killed and 78,404 injured in Israel’s military offensive in Gaza since Oct. 7, Gaza’s health ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
