These individuals belong to various religions and communities, each with different beliefs and deities. The religion with the largest population is considered the world’s largest, and currently, Christianity holds this position, followed by Islam and Hinduism. Amid this rapid population growth, several countries, including India, have implemented laws and regulations. According to a report by Pew Research, the fastest-growing religion in the world is Islam which is growing faster than any other religion. The report suggests that by 2050, the population of most major religions is expected to increase. Christianity will remain the largest religious group by 2050, but Islam is projected to surpass it and become the world’s dominant religion by 2070.
Decline in Non-Religious Populations

- Christianity: In 2010, the population of people following Christianity was 2.16 billion. The population is projected to grow to more than 2.91 billion by 2050. This marks an increase of approx. 750 million over 40 years, with an annual growth of 18.7 million.
- Islam: In 2010, Muslims were around 1.5 billion. Now they are expected to rise to over 2.76 billion by 2050. It means the Muslim population represents an increase of 1.16 billion, with an annual growth of 29 million, or 2.4 million per month.
- Hinduism: In 2010, the Hindus were 1.03 billion, projected to reach 1.38 billion by 2050, marking a 350 million increase over 40 years, with annual growth exceeding 7 million.
- Buddhism: In contrast, Buddhist people were 480 million in 2010, but they are expected to decline by 2050, with an annual decrease of approx. 37,000.
