Russia-Ukraine war: In a significant win for the diplomatic power of US President-elect Donald Trump, Russia has said that it is open to a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Trump, which the Republican said on Monday would take place “very quickly.” Moreover, Russia has also added that it has detected a shift from US President-elect Donald Trump and his team towards recognizing the “realities” on the ground in Ukraine, and sees this as a welcome sign as it prepares to study his plan for ending the war.
Moscow ready to study Trump’s ideas
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow is ready to study Trump’s ideas for ending the conflict in Ukraine once he takes office on Jan. 20. Therefore, there are high chances that the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war will end in 1st week of Donald Trump presidency.
Lavrov told a press conference that Russia welcomed the fact that the incoming administration had “started to mention the realities on the ground” more often. Russian Foreign Minister referred to comments by both Trump and incoming national security adviser Mike Waltz.

“Everything that has been discussed over the past year has several aspects. First of all, the fact that people have started mentioning the realities on the ground more often, it (this fact) probably deserves to be welcomed, but still.. Yes, Mr. Waltz, who, as I understand, will be the national security adviser, and President Trump himself, in a long interview, mentioned the primal causes of the conflict in terms of dragging the Kyiv regime into NATO, contrary to the agreements that were reached through the Soviet and later the Russia-U.S. agreements and relationships, and those within the framework of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe”, Russian Foreign Minister was quoted saying in a report by news agency Reuters about US President-elect Donald Trump.
Waltz told ABC on Sunday that it was clear the war must end somehow by diplomatic means.
Russian Foreign Minister added: “I just don’t think it’s realistic to say we’re going to expel every Russian from every inch of Ukrainian soil, even Crimea. President Trump has acknowledged that reality, and I think it’s been a huge step forward that the entire world is acknowledging that reality. Now let’s move forward.”
Russia controls around a fifth of Ukraine after nearly three years of war and says any deal to end the war must take account of that.
