Big worry for India as Bangladesh strengthens ties with Pakistan, breaks 13-year record by… PM Shehbaz Sharif, Yunus now plan to…

Dhaka: Bankrupt Bangladesh has been growing closer to Pakistan since Muhammad Yunus came to power following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. According to the reports, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday spoke to his Bangladesh counterpart and extended Eid greetings. During the conversation, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. PM Sharif has invited Yunus to visit Pakistan.

The Pakistan prime minister also invited legendary singer Runa Laila, along with a Bangladeshi cultural troupe, to perform in Pakistan.

Pakistani Foreign Minister’s Bangladesh Visit:

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, will be in Bangladesh for his 3-day visit starting April 22. It is important to note that this will be the first visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to Bangladesh in 13 years.

During his trip, Ishaq Dar will meet Muhammad Yunus. Additionally, he is scheduled to hold formal discussions with Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor, Touhid Hossain, and other cabinet members and officials.

Pakistan to Sign Multiple Agreements with Bangladesh

According to the reports, the Pakistani foreign minister and his Bangladeshi counterpart are expected to sign several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements, focusing on trade, commercial relations, and enhancing people-to-people contacts. To recall, Hina Rabbani Khar was the last Pakistani foreign minister to visit Bangladesh in 2012. Since then, under Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, Bangladesh’s relations with Pakistan have deteriorated.

Both Pakistan and Bangladesh are looking for mediums to enhance their trade relations. Both the countries had earlier initiated direct trade via sea routes for the first time. After Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign by radical groups in Bangladesh and Muhammad Yunus took charge, the ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh have improved. Both sides are also working on improving defense relations. The Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division of Bangladesh, Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hasan, who is the second-in-command, was the first top Bangladeshi general in several years to visit Islamabad in January.
