Bangladesh, which has been trying to strengthen ties with China, has once again made a controversial statement about India. On Tuesday (March 1), Mahfuz Alam, the information advisor to Bangladesh’s interim government, claimed that over one lakh members of the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party have fled to India. According to Bangladeshi news portal BDNews24.com, Alam made this statement during an event held on the occasion of Eid. The gathering included families of individuals who were allegedly missing or killed during Hasina’s tenure.
Human rights group organized the event
A press release mentioned that the human rights group Mayor Dak arranged the event in the Tejgaon area of the city. As per the state-run news agency BSS, Mahfuz Alam criticized Hasina, accusing her of forcibly disappearing people and orchestrating killings as a form of revenge for her parents’ assassination.
Alam further stated, “It is extremely unfortunate that India has chosen to provide shelter to Sheikh Hasina and her militant forces. We have received information that over one lakh Awami League members have sought refuge in India, and the country has welcomed them.”
Serious allegations against Sheikh Hasina by Mahfuz Alam
Bangladesh’s Information Advisor, Mahfuz Alam, has made serious allegations against Sheikh Hasina. He stated, “In 2013 and 2014, when people were fighting for their voting rights, the highest number of forced disappearances took place. The main objective behind this was to completely destroy Bangladesh’s electoral system.”
