Kiev: The visiting chair of the NATO Military Committee, Robert Bauer said that the alliance is fully prepared for a potential conflict with Russia. In a statement to the media, Bauer emphasized that being prepared for any scenario is their primary objective. He reassured that if a conflict were to arise today, NATO would be equipped to respond effectively with the resources at hand. “Are we ready? The answer is yes! This is our main task to be ready. If it happens today, we will have to fight with available means,” Bauer was cited as saying on Friday as quoted by Xinhua news agency report.
In recent years, NATO has significantly strengthened its eastern flank, launching an Enhanced Forward Presence (EFP) operation in Baltic countries, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, he said. Bauer highlighted that NATO currently maintains eight battalion-size battlegroups, strategically positioned to deter and counter any potential Russian aggression along the alliance’s eastern border.
Poland ‘mentally’ ready for conflict with Russia
A former U.S. Army officer Stanislav Krapivnik told RT News that Poland is gearing up to get involved in the conflict with Russia. He claimed the Polish government is “mentally” preparing its population for direct involvement in conflict with Russia. Krapivnik alleged that recent allegations made by top Polish officials regarding Russia’s supposed plans to attack NATO are intended to justify a preemptive military operation.
Over the past several weeks, a number of senior civilian and military officials from multiple NATO member states warned that Moscow could strike the bloc in the coming years. On Monday, the chief of the Polish General Staff, General Wieslaw Kukula, said that “Russia is preparing for a conflict with NATO” in the next decade. He added that Moscow “will exploit any opportunity and any emerging weakness that can be operationalized to achieve its own interests.”
According to rt.com, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly made it clear that Moscow has no plans to attack NATO. Addressing his supporters over the weekend after winning the presidential election, he said “anything is possible in the modern world,” but hardly “anyone is interested” in a full military confrontation.
