‘Desi President’: Indian-Americans Launch Website For Kamala Harris Campaign

Chicago: Excited that someone from their community is now the Democratic presidential candidate, a group of enthusiastic Indian-Americans has created a new website called DesiPresident.com, with the tagline “Kamala Ke Saath.” Kamala Harris is of Indian origin. Her mother was Indian and her father is Jamaican; both immigrated to the United States. She was born in Oakland, California, and attended a historically black university, Howard University, in Washington.

“The coming months are filled with excitement and promise as we rally together to make history. Your participation and enthusiasm are key to our success, and we can’t wait to embark on this journey with you,” reads the statement on the website.

“The Indian American Impact Fund supports Kamala Devi Harris for President. We’re mobilizing South Asian voters to help elect the first Indian-American president. Kamala Harris stands for our values and communities,” the website further reads.

The Desi President, a project by the Indian American Impact Fund, has released a T-shirt with the slogan “Kamala Ke Saath: Vote Kamala,” which quickly gained popularity on social media platforms. 59-year-old Kamala is the first female, first Black and first Asian American vice president. Also, if she wins the upcoming polls, she will become the first woman president of the country.

The group is also hosting a weekly virtual phone bank called “Kamala Ke Saath” to reach out to voters and supporters by phone. This week, the Indian American Impact Fund presented a T-shirt to Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi at an event.

This isn’t the first time a presidential campaign has used a Hindi slogan. In the 2016 elections, the Trump campaign adopted the slogan “Ab Ki Baar Trump Sarkaar.” The 2024 United States presidential election will be the 60th quadrennial election, scheduled for November 5, 2024.
