As war with Hezbollah rages on, Israel declares ’emergency’ till…

New Delhi: In an unprecedented development, the Israeli government has given a go ahead to the proposal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Monday, 23 September 2024 to declare a nationwide “special state of emergency” for the home front until September 30.

It was an urgent decision that was made through a phone vote after an attempted assassination of senior Hezbollah leader Ali Karaki in Beirut’s Dahieh district.

The declaration of emergency does not directly impact civilians but empowers the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and state agencies to implement changes quickly if and when required during this violent conflict.

As for the news from the battlefront, more than 270 Lebanese were killed in Israeli strikes on Monday, 23 September 2024 in what is being described as the deadliest barrage since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war.

The Israeli military had earlier warned the residents in southern and eastern Lebanon to vacate the areas ahead of a broadening air campaign against Hezbollah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a recorded message addressed to Lebanese civilians, urged them to heed Israeli calls to evacuate, saying “take this warning seriously.”

“Please get out of harm’s way now,” Netanyahu said. “Once our operation is finished, you can come back safely to your homes.”
