After days of violent war, Israel has agreed to ceasefire plan with Hezbollah but with… The deal is brokered by…

Israel- Hezbollah ceasefire plan: In a major development in the ongoing war between Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel, reports have it that Israel has agreed in principle to a US-backed ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Israeli government is preparing on the plan presentation. As per a report by Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Israel has said that there are many unresolved issues between Israel and Hezbollah, but Jerusalem had approved the main ceasefire principles of the proposal. Adding to the developments, Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem also said last week that his group had reviewed the ceasefire proposal and the decision now rests with Israel.

Israel- Hezbollah ceasefire plan?

The Israeli newspaper has revealed a three-step program, which includes launching a truce, followed by Hezbollah’s withdrawal of their forces to the north side of the Litani River, Israel’s pullback from southern Lebanon, and subsequently, talks between Israel and Lebanon over disputed area boundaries.

Israel puts condition to ceasefire plan

The plan suggests that the United States will take an international body obligated to supervise the ceasefire. Besides, Israel has placed a condition for a written endorsement from Washington, confirming its inherent right to react militarily should Hezbollah violate the ceasefire pact, independent of actions by the Lebanese forces or any global troops.

Israel Netanyahu denounces ICC arrest warrants

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last week that a decision by the International Criminal Court to issue a warrant to arrest him for alleged war crimes was an “antisemitic”.

In their decision, the ICC judges said there were reasonable grounds to believe Netanyahu and his former defence minister Yoav Gallant were criminally responsible for acts including murder, persecution and starvation as a weapon of war as part of a “widespread and systematic attack against the civilian population of Gaza”.

Israel has rejected the jurisdiction of the Hague-based court and denies war crimes in Gaza.

“The antisemitic decision of the international court in The Hague is a modern Dreyfus trial, and it will end the same way,” Netanyahu said in a video statement. The court does not have its own police force to carry out arrests and relies on its 124 member states for that, with only limited diplomatic means to force them if they do not want to.
