Member countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, stated that such actions by Israel could escalate the ongoing conflict in the region. According to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, the Arab League passed a resolution during the meeting condemning “Israeli attempts to expand aggressive activities in the region, including Iraq.” The resolution cautioned that increased Israeli aggression poses the risk of triggering a broader regional war, jeopardizing security and stability across the area.

What did Qatar’s ambassador to Egypt say about the resolution?

Qatar’s Ambassador to Egypt, Tarek Al-Ansari, commented on the resolution on Monday, stating, The resolution to support Iraq was unanimously adopted with the agreement of all Arab League members.” He further noted that the emergency meeting of the Arab League had been convened at Iraq’s request, with participation from the League’s permanent representatives.

Iraq concerned over Israel’s letter to the UN

Last week, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar disclosed that he had sent a letter to the President of the United Nations Security Council. In the letter, the Israeli Foreign Minister called for “immediate action against Iran-backed militias using Iraqi territory to launch attacks on Israel.” He urged the Security Council to press the Iraqi government to fulfill its international obligations and prevent these attacks on Israel.

Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, expressed concern, warning that the Israeli letter to the UN could serve as a pretext for an attack on Iraq.

Israeli offensive on Gaza persists for over a Year

The conflict in Gaza has now spilled over into Lebanon, with Israel engaged in hostilities against Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy in Lebanon.

On Thursday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The warrants accuse them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces genocide charges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) related to its actions in Gaza.
