Russia-Ukraine war: Russia on Tuesday(November 19) reported that Ukrainian forces fired six US-produced ATACMS missiles at Russia’s Bryansk region, with five being shot down by S-400 and Pantsir AA systems, and one causing a fire after its fragments fell in the technical zone of a military facility. Notably, this event comes following the decision of outgoing US President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to strike deep inside Russia using long-range missiles, a move strongly condemned by Russia as a significant escalation of tensions, and involvement of the United States in the conflict.
According to the media reports, Ukraine has also fired UK-made Storm Shadow missiles into Russia just one day after launching long-range American ATACMS missiles, raising concerns about a potential significant escalation in the nearly three-year-long conflict. However, Ukraine’s government has not yet confirmed the strikes on Tuesday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, Ukraine hopes that the US and its allies will also authorize the use of other lethal weapons. Taurus missile
According to the Navbharat Times report, the Taurus missile is a German-made long-range, air-launched precision strike missile, known for its advanced capabilities. It has a range of approximately 500 km, making it more effective than many other missiles, including the American ATACMS and the British Storm Shadow. However, as per the report, Germany has refused to send these rockets to Ukraine. However, in the changing situation, Germany may be persuaded to provide them to Ukraine.
Vampire Missiles
This European-made weapon is a short-range air defense system. According to a RAND report, this missile defense system can protect critical buildings from cruise missiles and drones. It can target up to a range of 1,000 kilometers. Ukraine has previously used the Vampire rocket launcher to attack the Russian city of Belgorod.
