Bankrupt Pakistan, with World Bank loan in hand worth Rs…., appeals to the world for a ‘concrete plan’ to….

Bankrupt Pakistan is now envisioning the reconstruction of Gaza, which has been left in ruins and remains by Israeli airstrikes. The country has asked for international assistance to support the reconstruction. It is to be noted that Pakistan has been facing a serious economic crisis. Pakistan’s Prime Minister on Wednesday hailed a historic agreement with the World Bank, which will direct $20 billion in loans over the next decade towards addressing development challenges, including the impacts of climate change and fostering private-sector growth in the cash-strapped nation. This raises an important question: How can a country that relies on foreign aid for its survival help others in need?

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the international community on Thursday to create a “concrete plan” for Gaza’s reconstruction. The country also called for Israel to be held accountable for the deaths of thousands of Palestinians. On Sunday, Israel and Hamas reached a long-awaited ceasefire agreement, which led to the exchange of hostages and prisoners, halting the conflict in Gaza after 15 months.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) reported that during the last day, its forces acted to defend themselves after they came under threats posed to them in the Gaza Strip, despite the terms of the ceasefire agreement that entered into force on Sunday.

According to estimates from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over 47,100 Gaza residents have been killed by Israeli airstrikes since the conflict started. Meanwhile, Al Jazeera reports that nearly 90 percent of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have been displaced due to the fighting. Around 92 percent of residential units in Gaza (436,000) have been either destroyed or damaged, and 80 percent of commercial facilities have also been wiped out.

During a weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan emphasized the importance of rebuilding Gaza’s infrastructure, which was destroyed during the conflict. As per the Dawn report, he stated, “We urge the international community to develop a concrete plan for the reconstruction of Gaza in line with UNSC resolutions.”

Khan further called for accountability regarding the Israeli crimes committed during this “brutal war,” emphasizing that it is a key element in restoring international legitimacy. Expressing support for the ceasefire agreement, he reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a two-state solution and condemned the recent Israeli raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, which resulted in the deaths of 10 Palestinians. “Such actions potentially undermine the precarious ceasefire in Gaza and the international community should take note of it,” he was quoted as saying by the Dawn.
