Washington DC: A tragic incident has come to light from the United States, where a passenger plane collided midair with a US military helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Thursday (local time), AFP reported, quoting the White House. Over 60 people, including passengers and crew members, were reportedly on board the plane.
Rescue operations are underway, and fireboats are at the scene, Reuters reported, quoting the Washington Fire Department.
According to local media, the collision occurred between American Airlines flight 5342 and a Black Hawk helicopter near the airport. However, an official confirmation is still awaited.
