Ukraine President Zelenskyy won’t apologise to Donald Trump, calls clash…

Washington: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy once again refused to apologize for his recent Oval Office skirmish with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. He stood firm in his stance, stating that the incident was ‘not good for both sides.’ However, the Ukrainian President acknowledged that it would be difficult for his country to defend itself against Russia if the U.S. withdrew its support. He expressed regret that the clash with Trump was televised and said, ‘Please be correct. I want to be polite.’

Asked whether he owed President Trump an apology, Zelenskyy said, “No. I respect the President. And I respect American people. I’m not sure we did something bad.”

Sharing his comments on whether the confrontation at the Oval Office was pre-planned, he said “It’s a really tough situation,” before mentioning some strong comments made with regard to his country during the contentious dialogue. He said referring to the US, “Where is our friendship?”

Adamant on his cause for “justice and lasting peace” in Ukraine, Zelenskyy insisted that the “mineral deal is part of the structure of the security guarantee.”

In contrast to the evolving dynamics between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin—where the US President has been referred to as Putin’s “lap dog”—Baeir inquired if Trump is too aligned with Putin. Zelenskyy expressed his desire for Trump to take a neutral stance, stating, “I want him to be in the middle,” and emphasized, “I want him to be on our side.” When asked if his relationship with Trump could be repaired following their disagreement on Friday, he responded affirmatively, saying, “Yes, of course.”

The Ukrainian President ended the discussion with Baier by expressing regret for the intense exchange that unfolded publicly, but did not extend an apology to Trump. He stated, “We are grateful and regretful about this. I truly mean it; we greatly desired to maintain strong relations.”
