Russia-Ukraine war: Analysts have long warned about the Russia-Ukraine war becoming a potential trigger for World War 3, and now those fears seem to be on the brink of becoming a stark reality as the European Union has reportedly issued an alert, urging over 450 million of its citizens across 27 member nations to prepare for the worst.
NATO countries prepping for war?
According to reports, the EU has urged citizens of its member states to store food, water and other essential supplies lasting at least 72 hours, with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, warning that Russia could be planning a full-scale attack on Europe by 2030. Following Rutte’s warning, several NATO members in Europe, including France, Germany and Poland, are preparing for the possibility of a full-scale war.
“If anyone miscalculates and thinks they can get away with attacking Poland or any other ally, they will be met with the full force of this fierce alliance. Our response will be devastating,” the NATO chief said in Warsaw, hours after dozens were killed in a Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Sumy.
“I am making this very clear to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and anyone else who may be planning an attack (on NATO states),” said Rutte.
Russia ‘greatest threat’ for NATO
The NATO chief warned that Russia has the capability to launch another major attack on European soil, and called Moscow “the greatest threat” for the alliance. “We must not forget that Russia is and will remain the greatest and most serious threat to our alliance. We must not forget that Russia is moving towards a wartime economy, and this will have a huge impact on the capacity and ability to build their armed forces,” he warned.
Meanwhile, Hadja Lahbib, the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, warned that the threats faced by Europe today are more complex and diverse, and need an equally complex solution.
Russia-Ukraine war: Russia missile strike in Sea of Japan
As per reports, Russia also fired cruise missiles from its Ufa attack sub into the Sea of Japan, with Russian state media claiming the missiles hit a land target 620 miles away in the Khabarovsk region as well as a naval target.
Reacting to the claims, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Moscow of “manipulation and intimidation”. “We don’t believe them. The world doesn’t really believe Russia. Unfortunately, even now, even today, on the day of the talks, we see that the Russians have already started to manipulate.”
Meanwhile, in a bid to end the Russia-Ukraine war, the United States recently held expert-level discussions with delegations from both Russia and Ukraine in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from March 23 to 25. According to an official White House press release, the these bilateral meetings followed high-level discussions by US President Donald Trump with, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy respectively.
