New Delhi: In June 2025, there is a planned joint military exercise between the US and Bangladesh called “Exercise Tiger Lightning”. This exercise is scheduled to take place in the summer of 2025 and aims to enhance peacekeeping readiness and promote interoperability between the armed forces of both nations. The focus of the exercise is on strengthening regional security and exploring areas where the US can support Bangladesh’s military.
The American army is going to conduct military exercises near Saint Martin Island in Bangladesh in collaboration with the Bangladesh Army. The government of Sheikh Hasina fell due to this very island. America wants to establish control over Saint Martin Island.
Sheikh Hasina had accused America of wanting to remove her from power to seize this island. The American army is scheduled to conduct exercises in the Cox’s Bazar area. This military exercise is scheduled to take place on a large scale next month between America and Bangladesh.
America wants to keep an eye on trade with Myanmar, India, China, and the Strait of Malacca from this region. Allegedly, the current situation in Bangladesh may be caused by Saint Martin Island as alleged by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina, who is currently living in India, has stated that whatever the situation is there (in Bangladesh) is due to an island. During this, she also made serious allegations against America. She said that if her government had handed over Saint Martin Island to America, her government would have been still in power today and perhaps these circumstances would not have arisen.
The coup in Bangladesh took place on August 5, 2024 when Sheikh Hasina’s government was ousted from power. Amidst widespread student movements and public protests, she had to resign and flee the country to India. It is alleged that America was behind Sheikh Hasina’s ouster. After Sheikh Hasina left the country, Muhammad Yunus, considered close the then US President Joe Biden, was made the head of the interim government.
Now, it is reported that America wants to assert its authority over this island to strengthen its position in the Arabian Sea and establish a military base on this island to challenge China.
