New Delhi: An earthquake hit Jammu and Kashmir at around 00:40 AM on Monday, 01 September 2025. Reports suggest that the earthquake was felt across northern Pakistan and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The estimated magnitude of the earthquake was 5.4 on the Richter Scale. It affected India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan.
Its epicentre is said to be near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, and its depth was estimated to be around 229 km. The intensity of the earthquake there was 6.7 on the Richter scale. Due to this, areas of northern India bordering Pakistan also trembled. At present, any loss of life and property cannot be ascertained.
Strong tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Although the earthquake lasted only for 5-7 seconds, it spread fear among the people, and they came out of their homes.
