US President Donald Trump has hit back against at US Appeals Court ruling that said most of his tariffs were illegal. Trump insisted that his tariff policy is still in place and promised to take the fight to the Supreme Court. The court’s decision marked a major blow to one of Trump’s key economic strategies but allowed the tariffs to remain until October 14, giving his team time to appeal. “ALL TARIFFS ARE STILL IN EFFECT! Today a Highly Partisan Appeals Court incorrectly said that our Tariffs should be removed, but they know the United States of America will win in the end,” he said.
“If these Tariffs ever went away, it would be a total disaster for the Country. It would make us financially weak, and we have to be strong. The U.S.A. will no longer tolerate enormous Trade Deficits and unfair Tariffs and Non Tariff Trade Barriers imposed by other Countries, friend or foe, that undermine our Manufacturers, Farmers, and everyone else. If allowed to stand, this Decision would literally destroy the United States of America.”
Trump added: “At the start of this Labor Day weekend, we should all remember that TARIFFS are the best tool to help our Workers, and support Companies that produce great MADE IN AMERICA products. For many years, Tariffs were allowed to be used against us by our uncaring and unwise Politicians. Now, with the help of the United States Supreme Court, we will use them to the benefit of our Nation, and Make America Rich, Strong, and Powerful Again! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
What did the US Appeal court say on Trump Tariffs?
A federal appeals court ruled on Friday that most of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs were illegal, dealing a major blow to one of the main parts of his trade policy. In a 7-4 decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit said that the law Trump used to justify his broad tariffs including his “reciprocal” tariffs did not actually give him the authority to put those taxes in place.
“The Constitution gives Congress, not the president, the exclusive power to impose taxes like tariffs,” the court said. “Tariffs are a power that belongs to Congress.”
The court put its decision on hold until October 14, giving Trump’s legal team time to take the case to the Supreme Court in hopes of overturning the ruling.
Trump’s Tariffs
On April 2, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump announced broad tariffs on imports from most of America’s trading partners.
Soon after, he introduced a 90-day pause to allow time for trade negotiations. While deals were reached with some countries, a few issues are still being worked out. On August 1, the White House released an updated list of tariffs targeting multiple countries.
The tariff battle didn’t stop there. Recently, it was revealed that the U.S. is now placing tariffs on all imported goods, with no exceptions.
