New Delhi: A major demand of Israel has been rejected by Lebanon’s armed group Hezbollah. The organisation says that we cannot give up our weapons because they are needed for Lebanon’s security. Hezbollah leader Sheikh Naim Qassem said that our weapons are necessary for Lebanon’s sovereignty and defence.
Conflict might continue for a long time
In this way, Hezbollah has rejected Israel’s condition of stopping the conflict with Lebanon. He said that Lebanon can be protected only when Israel stops the attacks. There is no other way. This stance of Hezbollah has made it clear that the conflict in the Middle East is not going to stop for the time being.
In a speech broadcast on Al-Manar TV on Monday, Qassem said, “We will not give up the weapons that protect us, honour us and protect our land and dignity. Those who want to snatch these weapons from us want to snatch our souls. This will never happen.”
Hezbollah calls it illegitimate decision
Rejecting the Lebanese government’s recent demand for Hezbollah’s disarmament, Qassem called it an illegitimate decision taken under American and Israeli orders. He warned that disarming Hezbollah would only serve Israel’s interests and would be a betrayal of the sacrifices of thousands of fighters and civilians killed in recent conflicts.
Lebanon’s problems stem from Israeli invasion and occupation: Naim Qassem
Naim Qassem stressed that Lebanon’s problems stem from the US-backed Israeli invasion and occupation. He said that the first step to solving the country’s crises is the complete end of the Israeli invasion, Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territory, the release of prisoners and the restoration of national sovereignty through reconstruction. Such a demand has been continuously made by Israel. In view of this, Lebanon had also appealed to Hezbollah, and Hezbollah has refused it.
Not only this, Naim Qassem also attacked the current government of Lebanon. He said that Lebanon’s interests cannot be protected under this government. Just last month, the Lebanese Council of Ministers passed a resolution and asked Hezbollah to lay down arms by the end of this year.
Hezbollah, Hamas and Houthis are considered to be Iran-backed militant organisations.
