Washington, DC: United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday (US local time) stated that his administration is continuing talks with India to address trade barriers. He took to his social media platform Truth Social and informed that he would hold a conversation with ‘very good friend’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming weeks. “I am pleased to announce that India and the United States of America are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations. I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries!,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Why Did The Announcement Come Weeks After The Imposition Of 50 Percent Tariff?
It is not worthy that, the announcement trade talks by the US President comes week after the White House imposed 50 percent tariff on goods coming from India. This tariff includes additional 25 percent penalty on purchasing crude oil from Russia. After PM Modi’s China visit to attend the SCO summit where he was seen talking to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump called India-US ties a “very special relationship”, assuring that the Indian PM will remain his friend.
