New Delhi: In a major development, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday met Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha. During his meeting the minister reiterated India’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations. Jaishankar also conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s warm greetings to the Amir. Jaishankar also met Qatar’s Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The two leaders discussed developments in West Asia, as well as broader regional and global issues.

What Jaishankar said

Jaishankar wrote on X, “Honoured to call on His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, in Doha today. Conveyed the warm greetings of Prime Minister Modi and reiterated our commitment to deepening India–Qatar relations. Value his guidance on enhancing cooperation and exploring new opportunities.”

India–Qatar discussed several issues

In his post on X, Jaishankar wrote, “Pleased to meet Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani in Doha. Reviewed key aspects of our strategic partnership, including energy, trade, investment, and people-to-people connect. Appreciate the exchange of views on the Middle East/West Asia and on regional and global issues.”

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry issues statement:

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry later issued a statement where it informed that the talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new opportunities for cooperation. Both sides also discussed several issues of mutual interest. Earlier in October, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal had met Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, in Doha and expressed optimism about India–Qatar economic cooperation.
