‘Mentally ill, his narrative has become national security threat,’ Pakistani Army lashes out at Imran Khan, alleges deliberate attempt…

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan is facing increasing challenges while in jail. His sister recently visited the former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. Following their 20-minute meeting, the Pakistani government has made a big decision. Pakistan’s Information Minister, Ataullah Tarar, announced Thursday that the government has made a decision not to allow Uzma, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, to visit Adiala Jail, accusing her of violating prison rules by indulging in political discussions during her visits.

Following their 20-minute meeting, Imran Khan stated that if anything happens to him, the Chief of Army Staff (CAS) and the Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DGISI) are responsible. PTI claimed that Imran Khan is receiving the same level of care as a prisoner on death row, and PTI further alleges that he has been placed in solitary confinement and denied even the basic human needs that are typically afforded to all other prisoners. After meeting Uzma, Imran Khan said, “The army has done everything they can against me. Now they have no choice but to kill me.”

Who in the Pakistani Army made these statements about Imran Khan?

Now, more bad news has come for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief. Earlier on Friday, Pakistan’s military called former Prime Minister Imran Khan “mentally ill” and alleged that his statements create a direct threat to the nation’s security. Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), made these comments at a press briefing held after the inauguration of the Chief of Defence Forces Headquarters.

Lt Gen Chaudhry slammed Khan at various points throughout the press conference, and during one comment, he explicitly linked one of the tweets from Khan as an example that he was trying to “build a narrative against the Pakistan Armed Forces”.

“This mentally ill person tweeted to build a narrative against the Pakistan Armed Forces,” stated the DG ISPR, adding that Khan’s statements have crossed into the sphere of national security. “Imran Khan’s narrative has become a national security threat.” He added, “A person thinks that if it’s not him, then it’s nothing. He has become a threat to national security,” adding “He thinks that without me, there is nothing.”

Imran, 72, has been in jail since August 2023, convicted in a string of cases he says were politically driven following his ouster in a 2022 no-confidence vote. His first conviction was in the Toshakhana case and centred on accusations that he unlawfully sold gifts received in office.
