Pakistan attacks Afghanistan: 11 kids among 13 killed in fresh airstrike, 14 injured; Taliban vows revenge

New Delhi: Pakistani forces launched airstrikes on Wednesday targeting what officials described as militant infrastructure and camps in Afghanistan’s southeastern provinces of Khost and Paktika. Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government stated that the strikes killed at least 13 people and injured 14 others, including civilians, across the provinces of Khost, Kunar, and Paktika.

The strikes mark the latest escalation in months of cross-border conflict between the neighboring countries. Since February, both sides have exchanged military attacks amid growing tensions over militant activity along the frontier, raising fears of a wider regional confrontation.

Afghan government officials said that Pakistani military “violated Afghanistan’s airspace and bombed civilian homes” in the provinces of Kunar, Khost, and Paktika killing at least 13 people. Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote on X, “As a result of these attacks, 11 children, one woman, and one elderly man were killed.” He also condemned teh action by calling it “humanitarian crime and act of aggression.”

Pakistan and Afghanistan had been embroiled in months of deadly fighting that killed hundreds of people since late February, when Afghanistan launched a cross-border attack on Pakistan in retaliation for Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghanistan.

To recall, last year, as the situation worsened at Pakistan and Afghanistan border, Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif dragged India and blamed the country for the deadly strikes. Issuing a baseless allegation, Asif claimed that the Taliban in Afghanistan is fighting “India’s proxy war.”

“Afghan Taliban are being sponsored by Delhi…Right now, Kabul is fighting a proxy war for Delhi,” Asif had said.
