5 Indians arrested in extortion, violence case in Canada, 23-year-old who was lured from India nabbed at Toronto Airport

Canada Arrests 5 Indians In Extortion Case: The Canadian authorities have arrested as many as five Indian nationals in connection with an alleged extortion and violence case. One of the suspects, Sanket Singla (23), was lured from India to Canada and was nabbed by cops at the Toronto airport. The investigation by the Langley detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) started last year when co-owners of an auto dealership in Langley complained that they were being extorted for money by some men and were “victims of significant extortion demands.”

As per reports, their business was targeted twice in attacks, including arson and shooting at Surrey and Langley locations.

“This underscores the serious nature of the threats and the violence associated with this criminal activity,” a release from Langley RCMP on Friday said.

RCMP Lures Key Suspect From India in Multi-Agency Sting Operation

Investigators launched major operations across different countries and identified a group allegedly involved in illegal activities, including extortion, trafficking and the prohibited use of firearms and controlled substances.

The investigation revealed Singla’s key role in the crimes. Investigators, with the help of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and RCMP Liaison Officers, carried out a massive operation and lured Singla to come to Canada. The cops then arrested him on October 1.

Investigators nabbed the other three accused in Surrey and Ottawa. They were identified as Sahil (24), Simranjeet Singh (24) and Harsh (21) and Jagdeep Singh. Jagdeep was nabbed from Ottawa.

Firearms, Explosives And Drugs Seized

Authorities slapped major charges on the accused, including extortion, recklessly discharging a firearm, causing damage by explosion to property, throwing an explosive substance with the intent to damage property and illegal transfer of a prohibited firearm.

Cops also seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including four firearms, assorted ammunition and magazines and drugs—fentanyl, cocaine and opium.

According to Langley RCMP, more suspects may be involved in extortion and violent crimes across British Columbia and Alberta.

“I want to sincerely thank the victims for their courage in coming forward, their support throughout the investigation, and the trust they placed in us to thoroughly investigate this matter and bring it before the courts,” Superintendent Harm Dosanje, Officer in Charge of Langley RCMP, said.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
